What can be the cause?
Headaches can result from a wide range of causes such as tightness in the muscles of your neck, upper back and shoulders from stress, poor posture or tension. There can also be environmental or dietary factors resulting in migraines.
What do you feel?
Symptoms of headaches range from mild discomfort to excruciating pain. They can feel like pressure, a tight band squeezing your head, sharp intermittent pain, throbbing/pulsating; a band from the back of the neck across the top of the head, pain felt in behind your eyes or a general ache in the background. Your head may even feel too heavy for your neck at times. Headaches can last from a few hours to several days, can be worse in the morning or gradually increase towards the end of the day resulting in disruption to everyday life.
What to do?
To have a headache regularly is not normal. Pain is the body’s way of communicating that something is wrong. If you suffer from headaches, it is worth having a consult with us to establish its cause. If your pain is beyond our scope of practice, you will be referred and advised accordingly for the appropriate therapy/investigations. If it is within our scope, we can work with you to help restore your body to its natural mechanics and relieve muscle tightness enabling the body to self-heal and regulate; as well as discuss the best way to prevent re-occurrence.
